Adopt, do not shop.
42 animal shelters and rescue groups recorded across Malaysia. Opening times are not published here, so call before you visit.
To adopt a cat or dog in Malaysia, contact one of the 42 animal shelters and rescue groups listed on PetMap.my. Ask each one what its adoption fee covers and what it needs from you, such as an interview or a home visit. Call before visiting, because opening times are not published here.
Listings come from Overture Maps open data, August 2026 release.
Before you adopt, ask the shelter. What the adoption fee covers, for example
vaccination and neutering; whether it wants to interview you or visit your home; whether you need
proof that pets are allowed where you live; and what happens if the adoption does not work out.
We do not publish shelters' fees or rules, because our sources do not carry them.

Adoption questions
How much does it cost to adopt a cat or dog in Malaysia?
It depends on the shelter and the animal, and we do not publish fees. Ask each shelter what it charges and what the fee covers, for example whether vaccination and neutering are included.
What should I ask a shelter before adopting?
Ask whether it will want to interview you or visit your home, whether you need proof that pets are allowed where you live, whether the animal is vaccinated and neutered, and what happens if the adoption does not work out.
Can I adopt from a shelter in another state?
It depends on the shelter. One that wants to visit your home or follow up after the adoption may prefer adopters nearby, so call and ask before you travel.
Are these shelters government-run?
We do not record who runs each shelter. Going by their names, 11 of the 42 listed here have SPCA in the name and 2 more spell out Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; one is a city council dog pound. Ask the shelter if it matters to you, and call before visiting, because opening times are not published here.
Why does this list feel short for the whole of Malaysia?
We list 42 shelters and rescues. Groups that operate only through Facebook do not appear in the open map data this directory is built from, so they are missing here. If you run one, adding it is free.
